Dragon*Con Media Requirements

Media Relations is designed to generate and promote publicity for Dragon*Con by utilizing all forms of media. Media access to Dragon*Con helps both the convention and the attending media by providing story ideas that interest potential Dragon*Con attendees.

Certainly post-con reviews are valuable, but the media best serves an event like ours when they provide prior publicity. Our goal is to reach as many potential attendees before the convention starts.  We encourage all media to give us as much pre-con attention as possible in exchange for your complimentary media passes.

We realize that not all forms of media are conducive to pre-con publicity. If you produce a radio or TV show, your format and show content might limit your topics. If you plan to tape a show from Dragon*Con, perhaps you could do a pre-show or teaser mentioning the dates of this year’s convention and our website.

Other forms of pre-con publicity are articles or shows about guests and musical acts, events and the convention in general, listings on calendars of events, and free ads or promos. For story ideas, please see our links to Press Releases and other items of interest under About Dragon*Con.

Media passes are designed for NEWS media – newspapers, magazines, television and radio. Not all media is automatically eligible for media passes. Each media organization will be analyzed for news content, circulation coverage, demographics, and location. If you are web-based media, your site must have strong news content to be considered for a comp badge.

If you are new to Dragon*Con, please fill out our New Media Form. If you are returning media, please fill out the Returning Media Form. Whoever will be acting as the main contact for your company needs to fill out the form. Anyone else from your company who will be attending as WORKING media and needs a badge can be listed on your form. We ask that you only request passes for legitimate working media (i.e. reporters who are covering Dragon*Con as a media event and not friends and family). Since passes are limited, we ask that you only request the minimum number of passes for essential staff.

If you are print media, please mail a copy of your publication or if your publication is online, please email your URL. If you are radio or television and produce a themed show, please send an aircheck tape or VHS video of a typical show. If you are web media, please send your URL and hit-count based on sessions. Also, please describe the type of pre-con coverage you can offer and what you intend to cover at the convention.

Documentary crews are not necessarily eligible for media passes. Podcasters and Bloggers are also not eligible for media passes unless you are directly affiliated with another news source. If you purchase badges, we will gladly add a PRESS ribbon to signify that you are with the Media. You will also have access to all Media events. You will need to come to the Press Room to get your PRESS ribbons.

Please mail all requests to:
